Cuba says hurricanes damaged tobacco sector
According to officials in Havana, two hurricanes that hit western Cuba over the past two weeks have destroyed thousands of curing sheds for tobacco leaves and seedling beds. Especially last week’s hurricane Lili battered the Pinar del Rio region, where Cuba grows the finest wrapper leaves.
How the damage will inflict the supply situation is not quite clear at the moment. But with a general decline in worldwide demand for Cuban cigars over past months will probably prevent an immediate shortage.
